Ed Turner is Reader in Politics at Aston University, Birmingham and Co-Director of the Aston Centre for Europe. He chairs the International Association for the Study of German Politics, and has published widely on many aspects of German domestic politics. He was seconded to the Research Analysts cadre of the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office between 2018 and 2020. Alongside his academic roles, Ed is deputy leader and cabinet member for finance and assets at Oxford City Council, having been a Labour councillor since 2002. In his spare time, he is a referee in semi-professional football, and an enthusiastic member of the Roter Stern Dransdorf carnival association.
